British Army Lists 1901-1950 - British Army

Using the official Army Lists you can research the military service of Officers. They will give you details of the unit he served, with details of rank and date he was promoted to that rank. It is possible to build up a picture of his military career from the lists that cover his service. They begin with a list of the officers by rank, generals through to lieutenants, with their name, and the date they received their commission. Then officers with their regiment, starting with the Cavalry, Dragoons, Guards, Artillery and the regiments of foot etc..
Officers of the Regular Army, Colonies, Militia and Territorial units are also included but they were not indexed until 1867.
The monthly army lists produced from 1798 are the hardest to find -most Institutions that received the Lists tended to keep the Annual Editions due to the large amount of space needed.
