Using the official Army Lists you can research the military service of Officers. They will give you details of the unit he served, with details of rank and date he was promoted to that rank. It is possible to build up a picture of his military career from the lists that cover his service. They begin with a list of the officers by rank, generals through to lieutenants, with their name, and the date they received their commission.
