Kellys Directory of Hampshire & the Isle of Wight 1923
Kelly's Directory. 1300+ pages. Towns & Villages Gazetteer, Private Residents, Trades listings...
The Proprietors trust that the present—the Sixteenth—Edition of
Kelly's Directory of HAMPSHIRE (including the ISLE OF WIGHT ) may be
found at least equal in accuracy to previous ones.
Every parish in the County is included in the book, which, though
primarily a Directory, is also in some measure a gazetteer, giving as it does
a topographical account of every Town, Parish, Village and Township, and
descriptions of the principal buildings and objects of interest.
Full information is given as to the County Councils ; the Hundreds,
Unions and County Court Districts ; the Cathedral, the Churches, with
the value of the Livings and the names of the Patrons and Incumbents ;
the chief Landowners, with details as to the Principal Seats ; the Hospitals
and Charities, whether general or local ; the Acreage, Soils and Crops ;
the Markets and Fairs ; the means of Conveyance by Railway, etc., will
be found in its pages.
The Map of the County has been corrected up to date, and is coloured
to show the Parliamentary Divisions. A Map of the Isle of Wight is also
included. In addition, as a special feature, a reproduction of a most
interesting ancient map of the County has been included.
The articles on the Geology of the County and of the Isle of Wight
have been carefully revised with a view of bringing them up to date,
more particularly from an industrial point of view. There are also sketch
maps showing the various strata.
The Proprietors have again to return their thanks to those Clergymen,
Magistrates' Clerks, Registrars and other Gentlemen who have assisted their
Agents in connection with the revision of the information for the present
Edition.
